How Is Heti Linked to Hempcrete?

A Beverage Brand Rooted in Regeneration

At first glance, a botanical beverage and sustainable housing may seem worlds apart. But at Heti, everything begins with the same question:

How can we work with the land and not against it?

Hemp has long been central to that answer.

While Heti is known for crafting low-dose, botanical beverages inspired by North American landscapes and Indigenous foodways, our connection to hemp goes far beyond what’s in our cans. It extends into how materials are grown, how communities are housed, and how sustainable systems can be built from the ground up.

From Seed to Structure: Why Hemp Matters

Hemp is one of the most versatile and regenerative plants on Earth. It grows quickly, restores soil health, requires minimal water, and captures carbon as it grows.

Beyond food and wellness applications, hemp is also being used to create hempcrete, a plant-based building material made from the inner woody core of the hemp stalk combined with lime.

Hempcrete is:

  • Carbon-negative over its lifecycle

  • Naturally insulating and breathable

  • Mold- and pest-resistant

  • Fire-resistant

  • Long-lasting and low-toxicity

In other words, it’s not just a building material, it’s a climate solution.

Dana Thompson’s Journey Into Hempcrete

For our founder, Dana Thompson, sustainability has always been inseparable from culture, land stewardship, and long-term thinking.

Back in October, Dana attended a major hemp industry expo, where she immersed herself in conversations around hempcrete, regenerative materials, and scalable housing solutions. The experience deepened her interest in how hemp can move beyond niche use cases and into real-world infrastructure.

Since then, Dana has continued:

  • Conducting independent research on hempcrete systems

  • Meeting with builders, engineers, and hemp innovators

  • Exploring how hempcrete housing can be expanded and supported in North America

This work is ongoing and intentional. Heti might not have all the answers, but we are committed to learning from those who are building them.

Meeting the Builders: Expanding the Hempcrete Conversation

Through this exploration Dana connected with Sergio Kovalenkov, a hempcrete specialist, who is actively working on hemp-based housing projects and educational workshops focused on regenerative building.

Sergio’s work demonstrates how hempcrete can be applied practically to create durable, healthier homes. His workshops and build projects help bridge the gap between innovation and implementation.

These kinds of collaborations and conversations are essential if hempcrete is going to scale and Heti is proud to be learning alongside those doing the work.

How This Connects Back to Heti

Heti exists at the intersection of food, wellness, and land-based systems.

Our beverages are crafted with intention and inspired by Indigenous knowledge, culinary tradition, and respect for natural ecosystems. Exploring hempcrete is a natural extension of those values.

By supporting research, education, and awareness around hemp-based materials, we aim to:

  • Help expand the hemp economy beyond consumer goods

  • Support regenerative agricultural systems

  • Contribute to conversations around sustainable housing and climate resilience

This is not a short-term initiative. It’s part of a longer vision. One that is rooted in responsibility, curiosity, and collaboration.

Looking Forward

As Heti continues to grow, so does our commitment to understanding how hemp can shape a more sustainable future, from beverages to buildings.

This journey is ongoing, and we’re excited to share what we learn along the way as we work toward a future where healthier communities are shaped by everything from what we drink to where we live.
